Guidlford made his debut for Hawke’s Bay and the Hurricanes while still a teenager and wasted no time in gaining a reputation as a lethal finisher.
In 2009, Guildford was the leading try scorer in the IRB Junior World Championships, an event won by New Zealand but marred by the death of Guildford’s father in the stands after the conclusion of the final.
The winger bounced back from the tragedy to top the try scoring tables in New Zealand’s domestic championship, earning selection for the All Blacks’ end of year tour.
A member of the Crusaders’ large contingent in the national team, Guildford represented the All Blacks sporadically in 2010 and 2011.
